SMT-TNT columns are specially designed C18 column for use in the reversed-phase separation of nitro aromatic and nitroamine derivatives. The isomeric nature of these explosive compounds is the reason for the difficulty in their separation. The standard test method for the analysis of seven nitro aromatic and nitroamine explosives in soil by HPLC specifies the use of two reversed-phase columns [C18 and CN] in series. A new HPLC method developed using SMT TNT1 is very simple and results in separation of six nitro aromatic explosives in fifteen minutes or less with a single column using a simple isocratic elution.
